LEFEET DPV + Model A = River Time Machine
I was doing a little cleanup in the Connecticut River near Hatfield this weekend, where I removed the usual rubbish: bottles and cans, a wiper blade, a garden hose, etc. Then, suddenly, I found a pretty exciting piece of trash, pictured here. My family from Texas ID’d it for me as the hub of a Model A Ford, from around the 1930s!
So here’s a creative use of a DPV for you! My LEFEET DPV took me down to the bottom of the river, to around 30’ depth. I’d picked up a few bits of trash when I noticed a large metal object sticking out of the riverbed. To clear all the gunk off of it to get a better view of what I’d found, I dug my knees into the river bottom, flipped over the DPV, and used the propulsion like a leaf-blower, pushing off all the muck and sand. The DPV has a really powerful thrust that can pull me upstream, so this method made for quick work. I lugged the 25-pound treasure to shore by hand and was gratified to have it identified so quickly.
Maybe next time I’ll find the rest of the car!
